Local 12 Proposes Alternatives to Planned BLS Move
Posted On: Feb 24, 2020

Local 12 has detailed why the proposed move of BLS from the Postal Square Building across from Union Station to the Census complex in Suitland MD  would gravely impair BLS’s long-established record of success, potentially undermining wide respect for its work; and the Administration significantly underestimates the space and facilities required for BLS to successfully achieve its mission.  Local 12 understands and appreciates the goal of seeking cost-savings; however, this goal can be achieved without compromising the mission provided that other alternatives may be presented.

Our members strongly support DOL’s overarching mission, which includes improving working conditions, assuring work-related benefits and rights, and promoting the welfare of wage earners.  We support these goals for DOL employees as well as for all American workers because they help ensure productive, stable, and positive working environments in which the critical rights and roles of the workforce are respected.

Jeff Wheeler, President
